The Importance of Interfacing and the Magic Pattern Book

 Today I have a new sewing project featuring Amy Barickman’s The Magic Pattern Book.

I wanted to talk today about the importance of using interfacing in your projects.  I used the Cecelia Dress.  The premise of the book is to take 6 base patterns and change them up to create numerous styles and garments.  My friend made the shirt version along with me and it came out great!

Start with the Cecelia Dress Pattern….please know interfacing is not called out to be used for this pattern.  I however know what using it can provide to my finished garment, so I chose to add it.  I used Light Weight Heat N Bond® Fusible Interfacing on the pocket, the sash and the cuffs of my sleeve.  The purpose of interfacing is to provide structure.  It helps keep the shape of the pattern piece you use it on.  It also helps the fabric from pulling and puckering. I’ve gotten in the habit of using it on all large pockets.  I knew I wanted this large pocket to hold my gigantic smart phone.  After several hours of wear I didn’t want the pocket to be stretched out and droopy.  With interfacing it holds it’s shape and my phone beautifully.

When using HeatnBond®  interfacing on a sash I recommend placing the interfacing on only one side of the fabric.  Otherwise it will be too thick and bulky.

I have no fancy photos of myself or anything, but I do have a SELFIE!  Which I figured I would share anyway.  I wanted you to see after 12 hours of wear how the dress looked at the end of the day. Check out that pocket!  If you are a beginner I highly recommend this book.  It has a lot of great information and the patterns are great.  If you are a full bust gal I suggest you watch a video on how to do a full bust adjustment. It will make fitting your garment much easier!

Deco Foil Headband with Thermoweb

Hi gang Jen Chesnick here from SayChez.com and I have a quick and easy project you can create in your embroidery machine using the new iCraft® Deco Foils™ Transfer Sheets.  To start you will need your embroidery file.  I used the Candy Heart set from HungryPandaSupplies on Etsy.

Step 1- Apply Heat N Bond® Lite Iron-On Adhesive (or use our NEW iCraft® Deco Foil™ Iron-On Transfer Adhesive)to a piece of wool felt, let cool and apply iCraft Deco foil in Silver.

Step 2- Set up your hoop using Medium Tear Away in the hoop and SpraynBond® Basting Adhesive Spray to hold your wool.

Step 3- Cover your foil with Wash/Tearaway stabilizer and GO!  When complete trim your heart and attach to your headband using Liquid Fabric Fuse™ Adhesive.

Make them for Valentine gifts for class! An alternative to candy and treats the girls and boys will be sure to love.

Make it Monday- Snapshots Rouche & Division Shirt and Bella BLVD CHA Reveal week!

Good Morning! Happy new year gang.  I have a new fabric project using Snapshots by Bella Blvd & Riley Blake.  I used the Rouche & Division top by Lil Luxe Collection.  Isn't she sweet?

Kid Friendly - Fabric Christmas Tree Ornament Tutorial

Hi Every holiday we make ornaments to give out to my daughters grandparents and aunts.  This year I found a photo on pinterest of fabric trees and thought it would be simple enough for her to create.

You will need the following supplies:

Fabric, cut into 6″ length then ripped roughly into 1.5″ sections.  Doesn’t have to be perfect.

A couple tree branches or sticks

Ornament hooks

items to decorate your tree, we used sequins

Glitter Dust™ & Zots™ Medium

Trim down your stick to roughly 6″ or size as desired.  Tie your fabric pieces to your stick until you like the way it looks. Attach your ornament hook to the top by twisting it tight.  Trim down your fabric to create the “tree” shape.

Using Medium Zots™ create a strip of sequins for your little one to use to decorate.  Bonus most kids like to peel stickers and you just created them a whole sheet!

Once you are done take them outside and give them a good shot of Glitter Dust™ and enjoy!

Make it Monday- Tinsel Town Stockings with Heat N Bond

Happy Monday! today we are going to make a stocking project using HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece, Heat N Bond® Fabric Adhesive and new iCraft™ Deco Foils!  I made my stocking using Dear Stella’s Christmas/Winter line, Tinsel Town. To start I used a free pattern for the stocking byPositively Splendid. Her pattern printer perfectly and I honestly just winged it putting them together.

 First I created two stockings.  The first I made for the outer lining and I used HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece to “puff it up”   I then created a liner stocking and attached the cuff.  Pretty simple stuff.

For the fronts of the stocking I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut my fabric using Heat N Bond® Ultra.  Next I decided to trim out the edges of my snowflakes and trees with new iCraft™ Deco Foil.  Using the adhesive draw around the edges of your design.  Once dried to a clear state simply press the foil onto the design.  Give it a good rub.

I used two colors of foil on the snowflakes.  Instead of doing a 2nd pass of blue foil I did green.  I really like how it come out!  What do you think?

Miss cozy pants in Bella Blvd Puppy Park!

Don't think I forgot a sewing project this week ;)  Last week I was on the Bella Blvd blog featuring our line Puppy Park by Riley Blake.  I made up this hat by SewBon on Pinterest.  Isn't it the best?  Parker said she needed cozy pants to go with her hat.  But of course.  I used a patter by Brownie Goose called Butler Britches.  Silly cute right?

How to make an Olaf Holiday Stocking

It;s Christmas all over!  I don't know about you, but the day after Thanksgiving it's game on in the Chesnick house.  We decked the halls and did some fun crafts this weekend.  If you saw Parker's Halloween costume you saw our Olaf Trick or Treat bag.  Well it was such a hit I decided to enlist my husband again to help make these Olaf stockings for the daycare kids.  

The construction is very simple.  You are going to need the following.

Felt:  brown, black, light blue, orange and white
Fleece:  White fleece and if you plan on lining you will need Fusible Fleece
This pattern by Positively Splendid
Fabric Fuse glue
Ribbon
Sewing machine & notions

Step 1:  Print out and assemble your stocking pattern.
Step 2.  Cut out 2 of your pattern piece in fleece.  If you would like to create a liner I would line with fusible fleece and cut another 2 stockings out.
Step 3:  Stitch up your stocking wrong sides together.  Pin ribbon to the inside of the stocking, fold over the edge and stitch.
Step 4:  Turn rights sides out and you are ready to glue.  You will need to hand cut our your face pieces from felt then assemble as shown using Fabric Fuse glue.  I used a stiffer felt for the nose lines to they would hold up.
