Make it Monday- With Maya Road!

Hi Gang! I've been quite the blog slacker.  It's Summer I am sorry ;)  I am stopping in to share two projects made for Maya Road.  Both sewing projects!  Details below.

Sewing with Wood Buttons

Jen Chesnick- Maya Road- Rayann Dress1
Hi Roadies! Jen Chesnick here today with my first post since re-joining the Maya Road team.  This time around you are going to see a lot of sewing projects from me using buttons, trims and other goodies.  Today I have a dress featuring thelarge Handmade with Love wood buttons
Jen Chesnick- Maya Road- Rayann Dress2
The dress pattern is by Simple Life Pattern Co.  It's called the Rayann and is made with no closures.  Meaning no zipper or working buttons on the back.  On the front however there is a band for placement of snaps or buttons.

I used snaps for my band to cinch in the waist then sewed the buttons on over the snaps! The great thing about doing this is my daughter can snap her dress up herself AND I didn't have to sew any button holes.  Hooray!

Too Cute Ruche Shorts and Candy Dot Trim

Jen Chesnick- Maya Road- Too Cute Shorts3
Hi Roadies! Jen back again with another sewing project featuring Candy Dots Bias Tape  in Punch.  I picked up this short and top pattern combo last month for a steal!  The shorts are called Too Cute Ruche Shorts by Cole's Creations and are so quick and easy.  Truly a great beginner pattern and a good way to use some of that pretty trim you've been hoarding.

The top pattern is also by Cole's Creation and is called the Too Cute Bias Tank.  I used Laguna knit by Robert Kaufman and used the same  trim for the bindings.  This tank is a great canvas for applique designs or heat transfer material.

Polka Dot background with Zots and Gelatos

Hi gang, I have a tutorial on the Thermoweb blog today using Zots and Gelatos check it out!
_MG_1571
To start I used Zots™ in Medium, 3 different color Geltaos, a water pen and my canvas.
_MG_1573
I tore of a couple strips of Zots™ and placed them directly on the canvas.  I didn’t intentionally line them up, but because of how they are placed on the strips they came out totally lined up!  Peel of the backing.  Because you are using canvas you might have to hold down one of the edges to get it to stick.
_MG_1574
When your done it should look something like this.
_MG_1575
Next scribble your gelato all over your canvas kind of like a crayon.  There are no mistakes here!_MG_1576
Then using your water pen blend your colors into your canvas.  You’ll notice them turning into that pretty water color look.
_MG_1577
Before your canvas dries peel off your Zots™.  I used tweezers but they come off pretty easily by hand.  I wouldn’t suggest letting them sit over night you may end up with a permanent bond.
Let your canvas dry overnight and decorate!

Holy Headbands Batman!

Well I've had time to burn the last few days so I spent it making a ridiculous amount of headbands for Parker.
This first set is made using American Crafts rose ribbon.  You can see the elastic is just on the backside.  All of these are no sew and made with fabric tac!

Next is ribbon flowers made using American Crafts Sketchbook ribbon and Epiphany Crafts hearts.

These next two are made with Little Yellow Bicycle felt flowers from the Hello Spring Line.

And finally the last two are made with Maya Road ribbon, jewel centers and vintage doily

It is still by far one of my very favorite projects that I have ever made.  I am in love with making things out of Maya Road Bottlecaps.  So I think what I am going to do next is make an advent calender.  I can't decide what line I want to use for it so here is your challenge and my giveaway.  Leave me a comment telling me which line (old or new doesn't matter) you would use and why.  I will be giving away a Two Peas Gift Card to a randomly drawn winner on Nov 8th.  You have until Nov 7th at 8 p.m. EST to leave a comment.  Please use your correct email when leaving a comment as that is how your gift card will come.
